đ The Legend of Tetris
Tetris was created in 1984 by Russian software engineer Alexey Pajitnov while working at the Dorodnitsyn Computing Centre of the Academy of Science of the USSR in Moscow. The name comes from "tetra" (four) and "tennis" (Pajitnov's favorite sport).
The game became the first entertainment software to be exported from the USSR to the US, and it sparked a legal battle over licensing rights. Despite the complexity of its origin story, Tetris became one of the most recognizable and successful video games of all time.
Tetris has been released on virtually every gaming platform ever created, from the original Electronika 60 computer to modern smartphones. It holds multiple Guinness World Records and has sold over 100 million copies worldwide.
